This month's vendor spotlight is Dragon Smart! We reached out to one of the owners, Alonna Geerts, to get some behind-the-scenes information. They specialize in breeding bearded dragons, running an animal rescue, and even own a pet store in McMinnville, TN.
No Animals Left Behind
Alonna got started in the hobby while working at a chain pet store. She created care guides and focused on improving the quality of life for the animals. This passion drove Alonna to create her own business and start breeding bearded dragons. Her goal is for the animals to thrive, not just survive. They offer a variety of products, including custom handmade hides, reptile lighting, and bearded dragons. Since she helps rescue animals, we recommend following her social media to stay up-to-date on all the animals that are rehabilitated and ready to be rehomed. Alonna is very active in the community for animal rehabilitation. The love and care she puts into these animals is evident in her work.
Bringing Awarness to Metabolic Bone Disease
Dragon Smart has dedicated part of their website to educating potential bearded dragon owners. You can view their blog here, as well as check out their merch. 100% of the proceeds go to helping animals in need. The merch features Rosie, a bearded dragon suffering from a severe case of metabolic bone disease (MBD). Unfortunately, this is one of the most common diseases bearded dragons can suffer from and is one of the reasons why proper animal husbandry is crucial.
You can find Alonna and the Dragon Smart team at the Nashville/Lebanon and Murfreesboro shows. If you aren’t able to check out their lovely selection in person, you can always visit them at https://dragonsmarttt.com for more information.
