Reptile and Amphibian Badges for the Boy and Girl Scouts

Due to Show Me Reptiles & Exotics having events for both the Boy and Girl Scouts, it's important to share with our community how to help their children earn the relevant badges. For Boy Scouts, kids can get the Reptile and Amphibian Study Merit Badge. For Girl Scouts, kids can get the Amphibians & Reptiles Badge. These badges are both earned in similar ways. The children need to have some basic knowledge and understanding of both Amphibians & Reptiles.

For Boy Scouts, there are  10 steps that must be met to earn their badges. Below is a preview of what some of these are. Show Me Reptiles & Exotics is a great place to get educated on everything kids will need to know to earn their badges.

1. Describe six species of Reptiles and four species of Amphibians.

-Create sketches for any 4 animals
-Explain the habitat of all 10
2. Prepare a list of common species local to the area
3. Describe 6 venomous snakes and one venomous lizard found in the US. Share what to do in case someone is bit by a venomous snake.

Families interested in getting the Reptile and Amphibian Study Merit Badge can find the full list of qualifications on the Boy Scouts of America website.

For Girl Scouts, the children will still need to have some basic knowledge of Amphibians and Reptiles. The requirements are a bit different, as the questions are not the exact same. Below is a preview of some of the tasks Girl Scouts must complete to earn their Amphibians & Reptiles Badge.

1. Invite a herpetologist to come speak to the Girl Scouts group – Show Me Reptiles & Exotics would be perfect for this!
2. Visit a Reptile or Amphibian Habitat nearby. Keep track of the different species and how many live there
3. Participate in a water clean-up event with the troop

Families that are interested in getting the Amphibian and Reptiles Badge can find the full list of qualifications from the Girl Scouts website.

While there are some differences between the 2 badges, the 2 groups are united by their love of animals, especially Reptiles and Amphibians. Both boys and girls will need to have a basic understanding of these animals, and Show Me Reptiles & Exotics is a great place to become educated, and even meet some of the requirements for these badges!
